Animals on Broadway: A Walk to Save Lives

Join ARF and the Bay Area animal welfare community for our annual Animals on Broadway fundraiser. Sign up as an individual — or team up with friends, family, co-workers, etc. — to save lives. As a bonus to making a difference for dogs and cats, fundraisers win amazing prizes. $50 raised earns the ever-popular AOB bandana, the proud badge of an annual lifesaver! $100 raised earns a collectible shirt that matches the bandana, and the prizes increase from there! Plus, you’ll be able to meet other animals like birds, farm animals and more.

We’re thrilled to announce the first $25,000 raised will be matched by a generous donor, so you can save more lives. Now’s the best time to register for Animals on Broadway!

Then, join us on Sunday, May 7, at Walnut Creek’s Broadway Plaza to celebrate the unique bond between pets and people at the Animals on Broadway community festival. The walk to save lives starts at 10:30 am with animals and their humans winding their way through an easy, one-mile loop around Broadway Plaza. The day continues at our pet festival with adoptions from rescue groups across the Bay Area, vendors with giveaways, entertainment, opportunities to win prizes, and a Best Dressed Pet Contest (in which all animals are welcome to participate!). We are excited to see you there — maybe you’ll meet your new furry best friend! We’d like to thank our top AOB sponsors: Broadway Plaza, Diablo Subaru of Walnut Creek, Nylabone, and Purina.

Beautiful Bumper Blossoms

Beautiful Bumper was found with his siblings as a stray, in the 100+ degree heat of California’s Central Valley. The local municipal shelter took in the litter and contacted our rescue team at the Animal Rescue Foundation. His cuteness says it all; he is as sweet as sugar and as one-of-a-kind as a grey rose bud, and we knew he would make a lucky adopter very happy. To start him on his journey, this little kitten was put in foster care, where he blossomed to become affectionate, cuddly, and playful. We soon realized his eyes weren’t flourishing.

Our veterinary team gave Bumper an ocular examination, and it was clear that he would need support. Unfortunately, both eyes were discovered to have some amount of scarring, but his left eye was also infected, likely due to a minor injury before his rescue.

Not long after entering our care, Bumper underwent eye surgery, called enucleation, where the left eye was removed, letting Bumper now live a comfortable life without the infected eye. Your support saves lives and provides the care animals need to thrive and blossom!

Joyful news for Bumper! Our expert veterinary team did a fantastic job, and his surgery was successful! He is now living with his “furever” best friend, with whom he “bumped hearts,” thanks to you! Your support of ARF saved Bumper and gave him a second chance at love with his new adopter. Do you want to help other animals flourish?
