Foster Volunteers Needed! Help Veterans with PTSD

Need a new purpose in the new year? Make a resolution that you’ll be motivated to keep all year long: Change lives by fostering rescue dogs who are being considered for service dog training in ARF’s Pets and Vets program. Volunteers care for and socialize carefully-selected dogs for two to four weeks.

“The dogs selected for this program are often gentle giants,” share foster volunteers Barry and Janelle. “Each dog has already been pre-evaluated and screened.”

Save lives and help a Veteran with PTSD, a traumatic brain injury, anxiety, or depression by opening your home to a future service dog-in-training. Our team will provide full-time support, full-service veterinary care at our clinic, and all the necessary food, toys, treats, and more!

Mie, another foster volunteer, says, “each of these dogs had an uncertain future, but they have so much potential to improve a Veteran’s life.” Volunteers foster dogs — providing socialization and evaluating how each dog reacts to everyday distractions like busy streets, bicycles, other animals, and more. Dogs with the qualities necessary for the program are matched, free of charge, with Veterans on the program’s waitlist. “I love watching these dogs transform from homeless to service dogs,” says Barry. “I’m honored to be a small part of this life-changing program.”

Volunteerism: Helping Animals and People

Now is a wonderful time to make an impact by saving lives and giving back to your community. Our mission is possible thanks to hundreds of dedicated volunteers. Giving your time extends critical resources and provides the necessary support to animals and pet guardians.

We are continuously looking for volunteers to join our community programs positions. These volunteers connect people to meaningful animal-related resources in their communities and provide direct assistance to pet guardians in their time of crisis.

Additional volunteer opportunities are available in our foster, adoptions, thrift store, and therapy animal programs. View more ways to volunteer and give animals a second chance at love.
