Golden Retriever Puppies Defy the Odds
Even at only a couple of months old, animals can be inspirational. That’s certainly the case with a litter of sick Golden Retriever puppies who recently arrived at ARF. Lethargic and underweight, these pups were in critical need of immediate medical attention. One puppy had already perished, and a second was too sick and succumbed to her illness within a few hours of arrival. But we were determined!
Our clinic team quarantined the siblings, administered subcutaneous fluids to address their dehydration, and rushed into action with emergency testing. Extensive testing found signs of coccidia, a parasite that lives in a dog’s intestine. It is extremely serious for dogs — especially for vulnerable puppies. We knew we had to act fast.
Many coccidia treatments cause the infection to die out over the course of a few weeks. But these puppies were already in dire condition, as the disease had been untreated for too long. Time was not on our side. A specialty medication was administered to provide faster relief. After a month of treatment in volunteer foster homes, the puppies were healthy enough for adoption. All of these inspirational cuties quickly found loving homes.

Join Us for Yappy Hour on December 8
Join us on Thursday, December 8 at 6 pm for Yappy Hour this holiday season. Unwind after work over cold drinks, smiling faces, and the company of furry, new friends. Doesn’t that sound paw-sitively amazing?
The Yappy Hour festivities include delicious food and drinks, animal-themed trivia, fun games, photo ops with Santa Paws, and a festive ugly sweater contest. Plus, attendees get a chance to support all of the wonderful animals at ARF.
